After all, it’s like a mini-vacation for everyone involved! However, pulling off a flawless event at the shore isn’t without its unique challenges. We tapped destination wedding designer Michelle Rago for her expert advice on the most important things to know when planning your nautical nuptials.

Real Stella York bride Megan’s Bahamas elopement is seriously so gorgeous, it has us packing our bags for the beach! Under tropical skies and with white sand beach between their toes, Megan and her groom Cody exchanged personal and heartfelt vows, promising each other a forever kind of love. For the big day, Megan wore a vintage-inspired ivory lace wedding dressthat capped off her romantic beach elopement perfectly.

From the bride: We were wed in an intimate, sunset beach ceremony attended solely by our photographer and her husband. We chose to elope for the ceremony simply to experience a wedding day away from the stresses of a traditional wedding. We wanted a day of simplicity, where the only thing to focus on was each other and the promise we were about to make in front of God. At the end of June, we celebrated with our loved ones at a bonfire reception on a beautiful farm and vineyard in southern West Virginia. Inspired by rustic and elegant elements, and SO much white, we created a reception that was truly “us.” The lanterns we scattered on the beach during our ceremony served as centerpieces on the farm. Everything about our wedding was elegant yet simple, which is exactly how I picture our “old-soul” kind of love. MyStella York dress (Stella York  5986) was one of the key pieces that satisfied both of those traits-it’s a timeless dress that I cherish. Looking back I realize that the big picture is only made beautiful if you focus your attention on the small details, everything will fall into place.

Ivanna took her search for a dress very seriously, she wanted something that would fit her personality and fashion sense but also something that wouldn’t wear her. She went to Julie Allen Bridals where the wedding consultant Jessica was able to understand everything she wanted. The MD175 was the last one Ivanna tried on after 15 dresses.

Ivanna loved the illusion back and unique detail this dress had to offer. It was light so she could dance the night away with all our friends and family.

From the Martina Liana bride: Deron and I knew shortly after we met that this was the real deal. Early on we started talking about what we would do for a wedding, and for us it was just easy to say let’s get away and let this be about us. We knew we wanted to go somewhere tropical, and Mexico is fairly easy to travel to. I started to search for resorts, and The Royal seemed to stand out, as many friends have actually been there as well. We were also in the middle of building our new home, so we wanted our wedding to be stress free, relaxing, and somewhere warm. We stayed down there for our honeymoon, and it was truly the best week of my life!

We have to sigh with just a little bit of envy at this incredible wedding. Every intimate, cheery detail of Dulce + Mark’s Hawaiian nuptials, captured by Naomi Wong Photography, is nothing short of incredible. And we’ve yet to see a bride more stunning than Dulce — with pearlescent orchids in her bridal bouquet and soft half updo. She wore one of our very favorite classic lace gowns, perfect on her petite frame. The couple kept their look organic, warm and totally beautiful. And how could you expect anything less in such a perfect location?

To find her dress, Shannon visited some stores out of town before realizing Petrov Bridal was right there in her hometown. She liked how the store stood up with all the European designers. Thanks to the help of the owner, after trying on many dresses, Shannon was mesmerized by the ADK 77961.

She had some alterations done to the dress since she wanted an even lower illusion back and she added a beautiful belt to compliment her waistline. She also wore Swarovski Crystal Diapason earrings that matched the shape of the lace. Her mom had a pendant specially made containing a small capsule with her dad’s ashes so she could have her dad with her on her wedding day. She also had a small picture of him attached to the bouquet.

Maggie bride Jessica shimmered with elegance and sweet sophistication in her Jade gown from Maggie Sottero’s Serencia Collection. Inspired by the wedding party’s Caribbean backdrop, Jessica and her groom, Steve, chose pearls and coral-pink dresses for the bridesmaids, and smart suspenders and navy-blue suits for the groomsmen. Steve had proposed to Jessica by leaving a message-in-a-bottle in the sand near his parents’ beach house—he had to point it out twice before Jessica pulled out the cork to find “Will you marry me?” scrolled on the paper inside! Jessica’s favorite part of her wedding was when she and Steve danced to Tim McGraw’s “My Best Friend,” and Steve sang to her. “I couldn’t stop smiling,” says Jessica—after all the chaos and emotion of nuptials, it’s important to “remind yourself of what is truly important.”

We love that Jessica styled her locks in side-swept waves to match her nautical theme; it gave the occasion an air of Old Hollywood glamour and fit perfectly with the gown’s luxe shimmer and sweetheart neckline! We think she looks just like a mermaid princess.

Real Weddings Martina Liana Bride Wear Style 690

Michaela and Nathan’s Mexican beach wedding was something for the books! This fun-loving couple chose to make the focus of their nuptials the friends and family they loved the best. The day was filled with surf and sun (and unfortunately some rain) but the bride looked stunning in a truly beautiful Martina Liana wedding dress. Cheers to the happy couple and may you two have lots of more wonderful trips to Mexico! 
From the bride: For every couple, the wedding location is different based on certain factors. We have such amazing friends and relations that we wanted to spend more than just one day/night celebrating such an important union in our lives. For this reason we chose a destination wedding. We had a large party join us in Riviera Cancun, Mexico, for our celebration. We chose a smaller resort because we wanted to make sure we were around all of our guests the entire week to create memories we will have for a lifetime. Instead of having a rehearsal dinner we chose to have a catamaran sail take our wedding ceremony sailing. This was a time for friends and family to mingle and share stories about Nathan and I. The night before the wedding, we had a bonfire to welcome all guests for the weekend. The wedding was held on the beach and the reception was around a pool lit with floating lanterns and white lights. For months we planned the perfect wedding for us as a couple and when the day came the “perfect” wedding was filled with thunder, rain, a tardy minister, and a reception dinner location change. Even through most of the craziness of the day, I wouldn’t change one important thing! It made for amazing memories and even better pictures. I would re-live that day again and again if I could. 
Every little detail that went into the planning was all worth it once that day arrived. The best memory from the day was when my two older brothers came to my room to see me in my dress Martina Liana 690 and walk me down the aisle. The bond that my brothers share with my husband is such a special sort of brotherhood it is a memory I will cherish forever.
